Partner
Carrie has been handling family law cases, exclusively, for her entire career. With her background in psychology, and her genuine care for people and families, she strives to provide balanced representation to her clients and help guide them through a difficult process with empathy and measure. Carrie has handled all aspects of family law, including complex and high-conflict cases and has litigated many cases throughout Northern Virginia. Despite her extensive litigation experience, Carrie firmly believes that the majority of clients are best served by resolving their cases out of court and she therefore encourages clients to consider alternative methods of resolution whenever possible.
Carrie was trained as a Collaborative lawyer in 2013. Through this training, she works to help clients and their spouses shift the focus of divorce and custody cases away from positional litigation that prioritizes only legal rights, to a comprehensive and holistic view that considers how your financial and emotional needs intersect with your legal rights. Carrie co-founded Patterson Bookwalter with a shared vision to encourage clients not to consider their divorce or separation as the end of their family, but the beginning of their new one.
Carrie practices in Arlington County, City of Alexandria, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and Prince William County in circuit courts and juvenile and domestic relations courts.
